Considered one of the most livable and desirable communities in the nation, the City of Ventura (pop. 111,790) sits in California’s Gold Coast region slightly north of Los Angeles County. The Community Development Department is supported by a staff of 42 FTE and a FY2018-19 budget of $11.5M.

In partnership with the Director, the Assistant Director will oversee a diverse range of activities in the Department. The ideal candidate will be a high energy professional who is comfortable managing in an exciting and dynamic environment. He/she will be well-versed in contemporary urban planning principles and practices. Five years of increasingly responsible community development related experience, including at least two years of administrative and supervisory experience, along with a bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
