Senate Housing Bills Are Back

Last year’s housing production bills – most of which failed, a few at the last second – will see a return in the California Legislature in 2021, thanks in large part to a new package sponsored by Senate leader Toni Atkins and others. There are a few new twists, like a CEQA exemption for upzonings near jobs and transit. And – not surprisingly – a couple of bills try to beef up restrictions on housing development in wildfire areas. One of those bills might require more general plan attention to wildfires.
