 Considered one of the most livable and desirable communities in the nation, the City of Ventura (pop. 111,790) sits in California’s Gold Coast region slightly north of Los Angeles County. A spectacular coastline and incredible climate are just two reasons why media have referred to the community as “the off-ramp to paradise” and identified it as one of the best cities in Southern California in which to live. The Community Development Department is supported by a staff of 42 FTE and a FY2018-19 budget of $11.5M.

Ventura is seeking a visionary Director with tremendous depth in contemporary planning principles and practices. This results-oriented professional will also be an inspiring people manager with a history of effectively leading change. Exceptional communications and interpersonal skills along with a history of successful relationship building will also be expected. Six years of progressively responsible community development experience, including at least two years of administrative/management experience, along with a bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
