Director of Community Development, City of Buena Park, CA

Buena Park is 21 miles southeast of Los Angeles, in northwest Orange County, with easy access to the 91 and 5 freeways. This full-service city maintains a workforce of 281 staff and a FY2020-21 operating budget of nearly $121 million. Community Development is supported by 20 FTEs and organized into four divisions: Planning, Building, Neighborhood Improvement, and Economic Development.

The ideal candidate will step into great project opportunities, be a progressive community development professional with solid land use credentials and exceptional communication skills and bring fresh and contemporary perspectives to business practices and outcomes. A forward-thinking leader known for innovative ideas and non-traditional approaches, this empowering manager will also have a reputation for developing staff. Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and ten years of relevant experience is required. A Master’s degree preferred and experience in economic development, housing rehabilitation, high-profile development projects is desirable.
